Belief

Belief? Do we all believe in something? Some people believe in money, idols and other things. My belief is in GOD. I'm a Christian. I was saved about two years ago. I wasn't going to write about religion in my blog. But right now I feel compelled to. Over the last few weeks I been having an incredible movement of Christ in my life. Its something I cant explain. Its just something I feel everyday. Like God is holding my hand. By writing this I'm trying to find out what people believe in. What gets you by. Some people say they do it all by themselves. Is that possible. Can you take credit for your life and circumstances? Or do you like me have a belief that someone else is moving you along in life. With all the craziness in the world what do you hang on to. I hang on to God's word. That's all I can do. So let me throw this out there. What gets you by when the chips are down? Who do you hang on to? Comments are welcome and encouraged on this post..................

From Ashy To Classy

With the World Wide Web we are from all parts of the country and world. As for myself I'm live in Houston but I'm originally from New York. So I tend to keep up on news from there. The other day a story in the news caught my attention. When it was first reported it was about a woman who killed her husband. She choked him out with an electrical cord. They were a black couple just got married and moved into a mansion on the water in Merrick Long Island. First reported she did it because she was miserable in her million dollar house. Apparently she missed the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn. This is a story I have seen so many times and even experienced it myself. Boy meets girl. They hook up. Boy moves girl out of the hood. Girl gets mad at boy for doing it. To me that would be a fairytale romance. But to a person that only knows the hood its like character suicide. My question is what is our loyalty to the hood? Yes we might have grown up there but there are better things out there. I lived in the hood in Brooklyn and there is no way I'm going to be running back to that life. You can call me whatever. Uncle Tom, Sellout whatever. Just know I'm not going back. Look at all the rappers that left and went back to keep there respect. Forget that. There would be no way I'm parking my Benz in front of a building. I don't know why we feel like we owe the hood something. You bust your hump to make it out then you tarnish yourself by going back around the same bad element you used to run with. I don't have a friend from ten years ago. Most of them are doing the same thing in the same hood. I left and never went back. I can't see going to the top of the hill and rolling all the way back down. It was hard enough to get to the top. But to roll back down and getting dirty along the way just because your so called friends are questioning you. It doesn't make sense. In my case my hood girl left me for her hood friends and her hood mentality. I told her to go and take everything with you. I let her take everything. I just took my clothes and computer. I was on my way to the top of the mountain and I wasn't going to let anybody stop me. My man Biggie said it best. You was a Reebok vandal, now you where Chanel sandals, I made you why would I play you. It all peas and rice crispies in the fridge when you get home...................................

Legal Drug Money

I received a funny email the other day. It was about some back in the day things. Yes I'm stuck in the old school. The one thing I got from it was we didn't complain as much as we do today. OH Doctor I have bad headaches. Here take some Vicodin. OH Doctor my child is acting crazy. Here give him some Ritalin. The best one is my legs move when I sleep. Oh you have RLS. Restless Leg Syndrome. Here take some more medicine. This place is crazy now. And we wonder why we have so many addicts. Nobody takes responsibility for there own actions anymore. There is always a drug or a Doctor to blame. Plus kids are getting hooked on prescription drugs at an early age. It seems like we are setting them up for failure at an early age. Then we go to the hood where a lot of the parents aren't educated about prescription drugs and there side effects. They seek advice from the Doctors in the clinics and hospitals. Who in turn are getting pimped by the drug companies to push there products. It legal drug dealing. Pharmacies and hospitals are the new corners. Doctors are the new dealers. Patients are the new crackheads. Its all legal and everybody is getting paid without the danger of getting arrested. And my people are killing each other over corners they don't even own. Crazy! I'm not saying all drugs are bad. Some are very helpful but there alternate methods of healing. We should take another approach. Doctor my head hurts. Stop stressing yourself. Doctor my child is acting crazy. Why don't you beat his a**. Doctor my legs move when I sleep. Why don't you stop drinking coffee and all that soda during the day. See we need to examine ourselves before we take the easy way out by going to our friendly neighborhood Doctor/Drug dealer for some medicine. Lastly examine that word "Drugdealer" and tell me who the real pusher is.............................

Back In The Days

I think the Notorious B.I.G. said it best. "Remember back in the days when my boys had waves, Gazelle shades and corn braids, Honies had the high top jellies, shooting skelly, All my people were friendly, Lounging at the BBQ, drinking brews with the neighborhood crews, hanging on the avenues". Where did all that go? Back then it was fun. Running the streets, chilling with your boys. And you didn't really have to worry about coming home dead or shot up. When we fought the most you would get is cut up. Most of the time it was just straight up fist fights. I really miss the parties. Back then I used to DJ. I remember controlling the crowd with my music. Heads were bopping, people were grinding away. It was fun! You had your thugs up in the spot but they hardly got any play. Back then it wasn't fashionable to be with one. Around 93-94 the climate started to change. The west coast scene started to bump in the NYC. Then everybody in the hood traded in there backpack for a bandanna. Most of the people my age didn't know anything about gangs. But thru the music they were influenced. That's when I started to see the emergence of the bloods and crips in the NYC. And people tell me music doesn't influence the youth. Fast Forward late 90's. Puffy and Bad Boy Entertainment had everything on lock. Former gangsters traded in there bandannas for some bling. Gold wasn't the standard anymore it was stepped up to platinum. Then the dirty south started to emerge. That's when we started losing our black women to the pole. All women wanted to do was shake it fast, watch yourself. Again you tell me music doesn't influence the youth. I retired from DJing in 2000. I don't know if I got tired of doing it or if it was the music that turned me off. They say music is the soundtrack of life. It is. And I think if we get that back in the day feel to it we could influence the next generation in a positive way....................................

College Dropout

Yes I'm a college dropout. I'm the only one out of my brothers that never finished. Although the family forced me to go I never wanted to. College is part of the American dream. Finish high school, go to college get your degree then your guaranteed a job. Mind you this is not an attack on college. It's just different strokes for different folks. Education is great. Its something that they can never take away from you. But so is a trade or if you specialize in a particular field. That knowledge is just as good as a degree. I never wanted to go. My mind was always technical. And those things cant be taught in college. I think before we force a child to go to college we should sit with them and see what they want to do in life. We need as much blue collar workers as white collars. Like I tell my bosses. You cant do what I do. Just sit back chill and manage and let me do my thing. Then with the cost of college at an all time high, we really need to see if we are going to get a return on our investment. When I finished technical school I was making more than some of my college educated friends. When I finished my computer training I was on my way. And to top it off I make a real good living doing something I like. And the great thing about my student loans are minimal. Its 2007 and I think the playing fields are leveling out. Its not who you know anymore its what you know. With that being said why do we degrade our own people for not going to college? Why do we degrade some people for the jobs that they have? Remember in life we all have our duty and purpose. Everybody cant be a doctor or a lawyer. We also need garbage men and plumbers. The white collar workers need to get there head out of there a**** and realize we are all needed to make this world go around.
